Shop Class
If I asked a high school student these days what a shop class was or is, do you think they would know? What was once called shop or even more recently vocational schools, has been renamed or rebranded to CTE or Career and Technical Education, and I was shocked to learn that, according to 2017 numbers, about 98% of high schools across the country offer some sort of CTE curriculum, which includes trade programs, either at the school, vo-tech school, community college or elsewhere. It is estimated that 11.2 million students are enrolled in CTE programs across the country.
The Book of Mormon
A huge shoutout to Jacob Aune, son of the Hub’s Eric Aune as he plays a major part in the traveling Broadway show, Book of Mormon. My wife and I saw it in Rockford, Illinois, this past week and it was so good. All of the performances were great but to say Jacob’s first foray into professional theater was no less than spectacular. When you know someone in the cast you tend to watch and focus on their performance more, which I did with Jacob.
